Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a great way to reduce hair density and growth. At Good Dermatology we have two medical grade lasers (755 nm long-pulsed Alexandrite and 1064 nm long-pulsed Nd:Yag) that allow us to treat patients with all skin types. With these powerful and precise lasers, we’re able to achieve expedited results all with minimum downtime and discomfort.
We recommend a consultation prior to treatment as some types of hairs (e.g. white hairs) do not respond as well to lasers and may be better candidates for electrolysis. Multiple treatments are needed for optimal results.
Before your Treatment
Please shave the affected area on the day of treatment so that hair is as close to the skin as possible. Do not wax before treatment. This removes the hair follicle, which is part of the targeted treatment area.
During Treatment
Depending on the treatment area, a topical numbing cream may be applied for at least 15 minutes. During your treatment, your dermatologist will provide eye protection in the form of goggles or metal eye shields. The laser will be directed toward the treatment area and with each pulse you may feel a snap or sting. You may also hear or feel a spray of cold air – this is used to cool the skin and balance the heat of the laser.
Recovery
Post treatment there is minimal downtime. Some patients may notice redness or pimples around the hair follicles for a few days, which subside with time.
Results
While there may be some hair growth after your treatment series, you’ll notice an overall, long term reduction in hair growth and density. Some patients need touch ups.
